Our Wedding Venue

امسال که تعطیلات زمستان با علی به ایران سفر کردیم، چند تا از باغ‌تالارهای مشهد رو دیدیم و بینشون پارمیس رو انتخاب کردیم. باورمون نمی‌شد که عروسی‌های ایران این همه تغییر کرده باشه و این همه گزینه وجود داشته باشه. چیدمان مجالس عروسی کاملا شکل غربی به خودش گرفته بود و البته هزینه ها هم ده‌ها برابر شده بود. انتخاب پارمیس چندتا دلیل داشت؛ اول اینکه پارمیس معروف به خدمات و پذیرایی عالی از مهمون‌هاست. نمی‌دونم چقدر با مشهد و مشهدی‌ها آشنایی دارید، اما در مشهد پذیرایی از مهمون‌ها حتی از لباس عروس هم مهم‌تره و معمولا بعد از عروسی تنها چیزی هست که به یاد می‌مونه. دومین دلیل سایز مناسب پارمیس بود. ازونجایی که عروسی ما قرار نیست خیلی بزرگ باشه، ما باید سایزی رو انتخاب می‌کردیم که پس از چیدمان میز و صندلی‌ها فضا خیلی خالی نمونه. من از باغسرای ملک هم خیلی خوشم اومده بود و به نظرم بسیار شیک و زیبا بود، اما ملک برای مجلس ۶۰۰ نفری ساخته شده بود و نه ۳۰۰ نفری. آخرین دلیل هم فضای مجلل ایرانی و تخت جمشیدی پارمیس بود. من شخصا طرفدار نقوش و مجسمه های تخت جمشیدی نیستم، اما ازون جایی که قراره فیلم عروسی ما برای دوستانمون در آمریکا هم پخش بشه، به نظر من و علی این‌که قسمتی از تاریخ ایران در عروسی ما خودش رو نشون بده، ایده‌ی خیلی خوبی بود. حتما بعد از عروسی چند تا عکس از پارمیس این‌جا می‌ذارم.

Ali and I travelled to Iran this winter break. During our trip, we looked at multiple wedding venues in our hometown of Mashhad. We could not believe how much the weddings and traditions have changed since we left Iran nine years ago, and how many options we now have to choose from! Almost all wedding venues were offering Western-style table set-ups, and there was no sign of what we remembered from weddings we attended when we were kids. The prices were astronomically higher and everything was so much fancier than we thought they would be. Among all our options, we chose "Parmis". There were a few reasons why we chose it. First, it is well-known in Mashhad for its amazing service to the guests of the weddings. In Mashhad, food and service in the weddings are even more important that the bride's dress! No one remembers what the bride wore after the wedding, but everyone remembers the great food and service they received in the reception! But I guess it is like that everywhere. Second, we are not going to have a large wedding, and Parmis was just the right size for us. It was just big enough to accommodate our guests without appearing too full or too empty. During our search, I almost fell in love with another venue, but it was built for parties of 600 and not 300, so Parmis, it was! And third, Parmis has an all Iranian luxurious ambiance. It is filled with motifs and sculptures from Persepolis, and although I'm not a big fan of the whole "human head on a horse's body" thing, Ali and I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate part of our great Persian history in our wedding, especially now that we plan to show our wedding movie to our American friends. I promise to post some photos of Parmis after our wedding!
